We have begun to plan our 2014 road trip this summer. We looked back over the last 5 years of traveling and realized that we have not visited Kansas, Iowa, Nebraska, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Maybe we will try to get these 5 states visited before the end of this summer’s camping experience? Our ultimate goal is travel back to the midwest to get to our hometown of Vermilion, Ohio sometime around mid-September. That will leave us close to 5 months of visiting and sightseeing as we leisurely move north and east. An RVer has to understand weather related patterns and storms, and if we decide to go the easterly route along Interstate 10, we will run into ‘tornado alley’ in Texas and Lousiana. We have been in a couple tornados over the years and it is a frightful experience! To avoid the spring weather we will move immediately north into Colorado, understanding that we will most likely run into colder weather and possibly snow. So be it.

Because of our northward trek, we decided to spend a good chunk of time in Wyoming. We will plan to head out sometime around May 1st in order to avoid the hot temperatures of Arizona. It is not fun camping in 100 plus degrees either! Our travels will take us from Picacho, Arizona, located 40 miles west of Tucson, traveling north to the four corners (Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Colorado - only place in the United States where 4 or more states meet) and on to Mesa Verde National Park near Cortez, Colorado. From there we will mosy east towards Denver, Colorado and visit with family who are located there. Then we will swing back north into Wyoming and roam around the state. When we feel have had enough of Wyoming, we will head to Kansas and move eastward, to Nebraska then Iowa, through Illinios, into Indiana, then to our hometown.

States Visited

On the return trip we will travel south and west, hoping to visit Missouri and Oklahoma as we move towards our winter home in Picacho, Arizona. But before we make this big trip we need to do some shake-down small trips because we purchased a new Class A Motor Home. We made a major change in the way we will move around the country. We have moved from the 5th wheel RV and diesel truck to a Class A Motor Home. Big changes in how we will travel, hook up and unhook the car that we will pull behind and how we will live. We understand from many RVers that this transition into a Class A is natural because as we age, it becomes more difficult to physically take care of a 5th Wheel. Will greatly miss riding in the big truck and having many memorable times living in the 5th wheel, but hope we will gain just as many or more in this new travel mode.
