LETTERS FROM ASRAT: A TRUE STORY

Since 2006, I’ve been sponsoring a child from Ethiopia named Asrat. He is the best. Every line in the following poem is taken verbatim from his letters. All creative credit belongs to Asrat.

My dear sponsor, how do you do?
Grace and peace be with you.
I am attending Sunday School and my education properly.
I’m ready for my fifth grade final exam now,
I learn about all things made by God now.
I have finished this academic year in a good condition.

Does your country children celebrate unity holiday?
Is there trees in your country?
There is the national leader election in my country.
By the end of this year we will celebrate
Children Thanksgiving Day conference
in songs, drama, poem, and different ceremonies.

Do children make
like us there?
In your country?

One man in my village become mad and he lived 70 days
on the branch of the big tree.
Strangely, I love you.
Thank you for what you did to me.

There is heavy rain in my country.
What is yours? What is your heavy rain?
It’s always the rainy season: May, November, December, May.
A heavy rain demolished the high school
found around my home area. I was shocked.
I wish you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

See you on the next letter
Bye!
