The
Acme Hotdog & Sausage Company
I
really loved this place. I found it by accident. Someone called
me while I was in the car and I couldn't get my cell phone out
of my pocket. So I pulled into this little restaurant parking
lot to pry my phone out of my pocket and vola, there it was,
The Acme Hotdog & Sausage Company. If you have read reviews
I have done you will have surmised that I like diner food. Food
cooked by individuals, following an individuals sensibilities
and devoted to a real person's desire to create something unique
and worthwhile, will almost always trump corporate, mass produced
and assembled fare. Acme is one of the places where this belief
shows itself to be true, brilliantly and clearly. I like hot
dogs so I am biased. But there is a difference between a mushy
stadium dog with watered yellow mustard and a fire grilled weenie
cooked by a cook that knows the noble history of the sausage
he prepares, that prepares each one to the liking of the customer,
places it on a fresh bun and provides the sides and condiments
needed to complete this American culinary icon. I am going back.
I need to try the andouille, brats, chorizo, sausage, hot dog
with casing, fries, and funnel cake. The staff (possibly the
owner) was friendly and engaging. The restaurant is typical
diner, clean and spare. The price may look a bit high. If you
got a standard mushy dog boiled and grilled and plopped on white
bread bun I would never go back. But you are buying a quality
dog reverently cooked and in a basket as God intended.
Given
the quality this is a value.
