'k. That's done.
So Rick, I bought that guitar. 1996 Gibson ES-335 re-issue. Blonde/brown
sunburst. I wanted the Beale Street Blue, but new that was like
$2500
from Musicians friend on-line. Like buying shoes on-line. So I
bought
locally. A local guy that sets-up guitars located one and told
me to go
see it. He said it looked good and I should play it. It had never
been
set-up it seems and the shop-keeper qualified the purchase at
check-out
saying there was a slight bow in the neck. I had played it and
it seemed
ok to me, and I looked at it and it was kind of an optical delusion
with
how the neck was attached to the guitar body, and a fret was there
and a
dot and it seemed like the action was high visually but it wasnt
there
when I played it. This stuff gets to be like voodoo after a while.
But
Shawn said the guy didnt really know how to set-up guitars and
that the
shopguy was flat out wrong. So it plays sweet. Shawn cleaned it
up a bit
and shined up the humbuckers and with new strings it plays so
sweet. The
old strings (original?) had corroded a bit and wouldnt slide and
the
frets were not even worn down. Someone kept this in the case and
didnt
use it much. The store guy had bought two, a red one and a brown
one.
The red one sold fast because of the color, but this was the better
guitar according to him. I think the local shop owners just keep
trading
these around cause another guy had told me he had just sold a
red one
and a brown one too.
Shawn has done work on my Les Paul and Epiphone, and even my Martin
if I
recall correctly and he has no reason to steer me wrong. The case
is
ugly brown, but I can live with that.
The neck feels like the Les Paul neck, nice and wide and roomy
but not
too thick.
Now Shawn wants to know what guitar I want next. Let my checkbook
re-bound I said.
-good news on the Naked Sunfish. I like that . -the crank
