Winter
Longing
I
live in the never ending season of summer in South Carolina,
so when I get a chance to go home to Ohio during the fall and
winter my biggest hope and wish is that I will see snow and
feel the cold bitter sting of winter. You see, I am one of the
few people that moved to the south not looking to escape the
cold. In fact, I love the cold. Temperatures of 10° and
below get my adrenaline racing. The air is crisp and tastes
fresher on those days when your snot freezes in your nose. I
daydream about snow when I walk my dogs down the warm January
beaches of Hilton Head Island. You may call me crazy, but cold
weather lets me know that I’m alive and reminds me of
growing up in northern Ohio longing for a snow day off from
school, so I could build a snowman or snow fort or go snowmobiling
through the rolling fields of Williams County. Eventually, I
will make my way back up north to live. Currently, the southland
is my residence, but the north will always be my home. This
past holiday season I did get my wish and I was able to capture
a few glimpses of winter’s powerful beauty with my camera.
